Reports to: Elementary or Junior High/High School Principal depending on where the Substitute is placed that day.
Classification: Non-exempt
Summary:
A Substitute Teacher creates and maintains an encouraging learning environment when the regular Teacher is absent. The Substitute will need to effectively manage and instruct the class from beginning to end and be sure the classroom is left in a tidy way once class has ended.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
An individual who holds this position must:
- Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning environment for all students
- Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
- Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan left by the regular classroom teacher
- Fill in for other employees of the District as needed. Such as school secretaries and the school Nurse
- Possess basic computer skills, utilize smart boards, projectors, and other instructional technology provided by the district
- Facilitate virtual learning when necessary
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination, and harassment as directed by board policy
- Follow and carry out all other duties assigned by the District

Qualifications:
Education/Experience
Valid Substitute Teaching Certificate with the Department of Education. A background check using fingerprints is required. At least 36 college credits are required. Past teaching, substitute teaching or any related job experience is preferred but not required.

An individual who holds this position must posses:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and instruct students in Preschool through the 12th grade
- General knowledge of varied subject areas
- Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
- Flexibility and critical thinking skills
- Patience

Conditions and Environment:
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors, such as a Physical Education class or supervising recess.
Salary and Working Hours:
The Salary will be set as the following:
$110 per day or $55 for a half day
Substitues should arrive for a full day by 7:25 am and may usually leave by 3:35 pm.
